Learn firsthand what it is like to be a whale researcher during this special offering with marine biologists out of Ma’alaea Harbor.
This unique adventure includes a 3 hour whale watch with our Certified Marine Naturalist onboard Ocean Explorer, a 54 ft. single deck catamaran. This vessel used to be our whale research vessel in years past, and offers the perfect small group platform for whale watching and photography.
With a small group and open air seating, you’ll have unobstructed viewing of the humpback whales and the opportunity to interact with our naturalists onboard to gain a better understanding about these giants of the sea, as well as how and what data collection our researchers are gathering. Our naturalists will provide you with expert commentary about humpback whales and the various behaviors being exhibited by these amazing giants during your tour. Every tour is different and amazing, so come out with us on this unique adventure. This tour is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

We had a spectacular tour on a gorgeous day (March 5th) and were extremely fortunate to see whales throughout our 3 hour tour! Our guide, Lisa, was truly exceptional, educating us throughout the trip. To note, we were on the Ultimate Whalewatch with the Experts out of Ma'alaea Harbor. We highly recommend this tour.
The Ultimate trip is more expensive,but totally worth it. The boat is much smaller, and with covid restrictions, we only had 13 people on the boat. It is 3 hours long and you are served a nice continental breakfast and drinks, as well as two beers or wine. We immediately found a pod of six whales and observed a lot of their behaviors. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly, and the small boat made it real easy to get pictures and see the whales. This is a great company, and a great tour. Definitely a highlight of my vacation!
