Waipi’o Valley and Waterfalls Tour

Nathaniel was great and knowledgeable as well as Helo who did the 4WD Waipi’o Valley shuttle part for a couple of hours mid morning - wonderful going into the valley and across the Waipi’o river and streams it would have been even better to see the black sand beach and got closer to the back of the valley and nearer to the falls rather than across the valley and all the stops looking at food sources etc.

Akaka Falls were quite impressive.

Then the private swim in a huge pool with a waterfall thundering in was a highlight of our trip to the big island of Hawai’i - just go with your guide to the storage box as it wasn’t till we were going that we saw they had a pool noodle which would have been handy as in the middle of the pool it is 30+feet deep and it can be tiring even for good swimmers to keep swimming. You have time before at the Akaka Falls to change into your swimmers but there are no change rooms at the private pool so take a towel and whip off your swimmers underneath (recommend tankini) as but uncomfortable in wet clothes as the next stop at macadamia farm is a bit of a drive

Best way to see Waipio!

This tour was a major highlight of my Hawaii visit. If you want to see the Waipio Valley, this is the best way to go. The group is small and our guide Douglas was fantastic, sharing experiences of growing up in the valley and life there now. But wait, there's more. After the Valley viewing, we were back with the other guide Nate (also great!) who laid out lunch for us and then took us to see more waterfalls and a macademia nut farm, all amazing. We were able to swim at one of the waterfall stops which I hadn't been sure I wanted to do, but am so glad I went for it! Nate passed around a sack of delicious locally made cookies. The whole tour was well done and covered territory I would not have been able to see otherwise. Hearing information and stories from both guides was an invaluable part of the experience. Highly recommended!!
