Hawaiʻiloa Luau located at the Fairmont Orchid Hawaiʻi on the Kohala Coast
An evening at the beautiful Fairmont Orchid Hawai’i enjoying the elegance and beauty of the Kohala Coast and the ambiance of the land area known as Kalahuipua’a.
Steeped in tradition and history, Kalahuipua'a is known as a gathering place for Ali'i (royalty) and special visitors. An evening at the Hawai'iloa Luau is full of this same tradition of Hawaiian culture and hospitality.
Join us for a family-friendly evening of special memories… the finest cuisine prepared by an award winning culinary team…. an internationally renowned cast sharing the stories of Hawai'i through live music and dance.
Meet the Hawaiʻiloa luau performers before the show and learn about the traditional games and cultural practices of the people. A hosted bar and a spectacular buffet offer the freshest and finest ingredients found on the island.
Story telling begins as beautiful hula dancers and talented musicians share the tales of Polynesia's brave and courageous voyagers - as they traveled to Hawai'i and established this land. Our family from Tahiti share the stories of their journey to Hawai'i, with the lively beat of the toere drum. Your hosts for the evening tell the story of their home with traditional hula. The influence of other cultures can be seen in the evolution of costumes and hula motions as we share unique and incredible history of this island of Hawai'i.

About the Location
Kalahuipua’a
All along the Kona-Kohala Coast, ancient fishing ponds remind us of those long-ago days when thatched hales (houses) and shady shelter caves were used as homes for fishermen and their families. Some of these ponds have been preserved but none have been restored and documented as well as those in the Kalahuipua'a area.
Today, guests are able to walk through the fishpond complex or along the King's or Ala Loa Trail, a shoreline trail that once connected villages along the coast.
At Kalahuipua'a, the fish that were bred and fattened in the ponds, were reserved for the ali'I (the royal classes). Commoners who stole fish for their own consumption could be punished by death. Fish were transported by trained runners to chiefly tables, sometimes many miles apart.
Kamehameha's heirs owned the area around the ponds, until Samuel Parker, grandson of John Palmer Parker (the founder of the Parker Ranch empire), purchased it in the late 1800s. In 1936 Francis Hyde I'i Brown, descendant of Papa I'i, one of Kamehameha's generals, acquired the land from the family of Eva Parker Woods.
