Come and join us for a three hour ocean tour off Makena, a haven blessed with consistently calm, clear waters and great views. Plus we’ll also introduce you to the local green sea turtles that live here year round!
On the morning of your tour we will meet at the designated Makena meeting point and get all the waiver documents signed. Next we’ll set everyone up with a life jacket, paddle, kayak, snorkel, mask, fins and dry bag. Before we hit the water we’ll start with a brief on land tutorial which will take you through the basics of kayaking, some pointers on paddling technique, rules and regulations and a rough plan of our itinerary for the morning. We should be heading into the water around 7:45am. We’ll jump into our kayaks and push out into the ocean. During whale season we’ll paddle straight out into the channel to look for whales. If it’s summer, we’ll focus on paddling through areas where green sea turtles and dolphins usually hang out. Keep your eyes open! The key to great snorkeling is knowing the best spots – we’ll paddle out together to the reef to find an excellent place just for us. We’ll drop anchor nearby and tie all the kayaks together so we can have a quick chat about what to expect on the guided snorkel tour.
Then it’s masks on, fins on and into the water for your guided snorkel safari! After your snorkel we’ll jump back into the kayaks for a group debrief and a snack of delicious fresh Hawaiian pineapple. Then, we’ll paddle back to the start point where your tour will conclude.
Respecting Our Ocean Friends
We can’t guarantee what you’ll see on the day but you might spot some local residents like green sea turtles, eels, octopus, triggerfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish, urchins and rays. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous Humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish (we just call it humuhumu for short!). We respect all wild animals which means we don’t touch or annoy them during our tours.
